Downtown Beautification

Keeping Ellsworth Beautiful

In 2012, the Ellsworth Area Chamber of Commerce and community business leaders launched a beautification effort in celebration of Ellsworth’s Sesquicentennial. With the motto “Building a Better Community” in mind, the Chamber secured grant funding from a local company to create a Flower Basket Program. Twenty-six hanging baskets were added along Main Street, complementing the community’s existing stone planters and setting the stage for future expansion.

That same year, East End Park underwent a major revitalization to mark its 100th anniversary. More than 100 residents and businesses contributed to the project, which added planters, fencing, stairs, lighting, and new signage—transforming the park into a renewed source of community pride.

Since then, the Chamber and its members have continued to maintain and expand these beautification efforts. Upgrades to East End Park, including bathroom renovations and electrical improvements, have helped make events like the Cheese Curd Festival and Ellsworth Farmers Market possible.

Today, the Beautification Program includes flower baskets and planters throughout Main Street and the East End. Rising supply and maintenance costs make community support more important than ever. Thanks to contributions from local businesses, civic groups, residents, and volunteers, a Beautification Fund helps sustain seasonal plantings, decorations, and future enhancement projects—keeping Ellsworth vibrant and welcoming year after year.

Ellsworth Beautification Campaign

Each year, beautification projects throughout Ellsworth's downtown total over $25,000. This amount includes the flower plantings and their care and maintenance during the summer months, winter arrangements during the cold weather months, and holiday lights in East End Park at Christmastime.

Flowers and greenery add beauty and life to a downtown and help create a memorable sense of place that encourages people to stop and linger. They enhance visitor experiences and represent the pride we have for our community.
