Volunteer Opportunity - Ellsworth Trails
Ellsworth Trails is thrilled to embark on an exciting community development project--the revitalization of Cairns Woods! Cairns Woods in lost gem in our community. It consists of a 34-acre education forest gifted to the Ellsworth community for the enjoyment of nature in 1959.
While there are some beautiful trails ready to explore, many have become overgrown and lost due to lack of use. Trail mapping and clearing of these long lost trails is currently underway!
Volunteers have begun to rediscover and mark these trails with flags. We need people to help clear these paths of sticks and branches and clear the overgrowth. The first trail being cleared is called 'Shovel Head Trail'. The trail is marked with flags and volunteers are being asked to clear about a 6’ wide path flag to flag.
Work can be completed as your schedule allows. Just wear your work gloves and bring your power trimmer or weed whacker and leaf blower or rake. This would be a great, outdoor, and socially distanced activity the whole family can pitch in and enjoy!
LOCATION: Cairns Woods is located just off of Hwy 65 on W. Cairns Street. You'll see the wide path entrance just past the Evergreen Estate Trailer Park on the south side of Cairns Street.
Regardless of whether you can help with trail clearing, the community is invited to visit and explore Cairns Woods. The foot-traffic helps to keep the weeds down and the trails visible. It's a safe outing -- grab the kids and head out to enjoy this local gem as a family!
