Community Beautification

Picture
In the spring of 2012, community business leaders, including Police Chief Greg Place, School Superintendent Barry Cain, and the Ellworth Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors emphasized the importance of beautifying our community in celebration of Ellsworth’s Sesquicentennial.  With their motto of “Building a Better Community” in mind, Chamber Executive Director Sarah Ries reached out to local company Fairmount Minerals for funding.

The company responded with a generous grant to implement a Flower Basket Program in the Ellsworth Community.  In addition to the twenty stone planters already located around town, 26 hanging baskets were installed along Main Street.  The hope is to increase this number in the future and extend placement beyond Main Street.

The Flower Basket Program adds beauty to our community, which in turn builds pride in residents and business owners.   In addition to Fairmount Minerals, key contributors to its inaugural year included Thomas & Betts Corporation, Harrington’s Greenhouse, Value Implement, the Village of Ellsworth, and the Ellsworth Community School District.

By fall, when the hanging baskets were coming down, another source of community pride was undergoing its own beautification:  East End Park.  As the crowning achievement of the Sesquicentennial Committee, major improvements were made in honor of Ellsworth’s 150-year history – fitting for a park celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2012.  Over one hundred residents and businesses contributed to the final effort, which included the addition of concrete planters, an iron fence, stairs, light poles, and park sign.

The Chamber once again stepped forward to take on the challenge of maintaining the new East End Park planters, as well as decorating the park for Christmas.  Support from local residents and businesses, through both financial contributions and volunteerism, is essential to the success of all of Ellsworth’s community beautification projects.  To make a donation to the Flower Basket Program or to volunteer to help with watering, please contact the Chamber Office at 715-273-6442 or e-mail info@ellsworthchamber.com or complete this form.
